The Soul Detectives 2004 - To Date

Early in 2004, as recording commenced on the band's fourth album, Darren Davis announced his decision to leave the band and emigrate to Australia. Darren had fronted the band for almost 10 years. He played his final show with the Soul Detectives at the Riga Music Bar in Westcliff-on-Sea, on Saturday 11th September 2004 and whilst work on the fourth album was never fully completed, several tracks were compiled into a mini-album to be sold on the night.

Soon after Darren's departure the band's original lead guitarist Fred Free decided to leave the band together with keyboard player Dave Unwin. These three members were soon replaced by John Field on lead guitar and vocals, Richard Valadez on lead vocals and the return of two former members, Chris Teeder on Keyboards and Maria Sewell-Jones on backing vocals.

In 2005 Tina Stevens departed from the band. Later the same year Dave Unwin returned to again replace Chris Teeder on keyboards. This line-up remained until April 2008 when Maria Sewell-Jones left the band.

In 2010 the band disbanded after nearly 20 years of public performances, although the original members still occasionally get together for reunion concerts.

Over the years The Soul Detectives have undertaken two successful tours of Gabon, Central Africa, appeared on stage with various guest stars, including Steve Harley (Cockney Rebel) and Jet Harris (The Shadows) and were the only 'unknown' act to be invited to perform at the Millennium Festival of the Sixties at the Brighton Centre.
